'From the British Embassy, Moscow: We will be making important changes to the way we issue passports for UK Nationals over the summer. From 1 September 2010 applications will be processed and printed centrally in regional Passport Processing Centres, no full validity passports will be processed in Moscow. Please see our website to find out how the changeswill affect you and how you can prepare for them http://ukinrussia.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/changes-2010'
‘What can I do to prepare for these changes?
- Take care of your passport
- Apply in good time. Passports can be renewed up to 9 months before they expire. The extra time will be added on to the new passport’s validity. Please note that first time applications (e.g. for children) may take longer to process.
- If you are a frequent traveller please enquire about purchasing a second passport (applicants must demonstrate that there is a genuine need to hold a second passport).
- If you need to travel urgently we can issue you with a one-way Emergency Passport; and we will be introducing a two-way Emergency Travel Document in summer 2010
- If you maintainan address in the UK you may want to think about applying direct to the Identity and Passport Service when you are next at home.’
