Embassies of the World Dinner and Ball 2005
On 5 February the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre hosted the 9th Annual Embassies Ball, which was organised by the International Women’s Club (IWC) and numerous businesses. The 850 guests were very varied - ambassadors, well-known politicians, bankers, businessmen, artists and of course celebrities. There was much to keep them busy through the night: a snow bar, cigar and hookah lodges, a fashion show, a charity auction and lottery. All the funds from the sale of tickets and donations will be used for charity projects carried out by the IWC across Russia.

The cameraman!

Polo, the sport of kings (and Princes of Wales) is now a part of Moscow High Society. We know because we have it on the best of authority (our social correspondent) that all over Moscow simply everybody who is everybody was heard to be explaining to the unlearned before the big match what is a chukka.

The big match in question was the Moscow Snow Polo Cup at Moscow City Golf Club.

Between chukkas, instead of treading in the divots (smoothing in the upturned grass), as is usual at Windsor or Palm Beach, the game spectators were asked to tread in the snow, difficult in Gucci high heels, but everybody took to it as if to the manor born.
