Mercury Polo Cup 2008

On June 28 and 29, the sixth annual Mercury Polo Cup was held at the Otrada equestrian complex. Organizers of the event included the Russian Polo Club, Eventica, and Absolutpro, along with the Mercury, a traditional support of polo competitions. Over two days of clouds and rain, four teams competed to win the title, with Beluga emerging the winner with a score of 5 to 1 over Villagio Estate. This was not the fi rst victory for Beluga this year on Russian soil: The team also won the Mercury Snow Polo Cup 2008, held at Otrada in February. And 2008 has turned out to be a watershed year not only for the Beluga team but for Russian polo in general: Russian Polo Club Chairman Viktor Uako kicked off the competition with the announcement that the Mercury Polo Cup event is to join the World Polo Tour.
