Moscow and Montmartre, Never Far Apart

On April 3, Russian designer Viktoria Savvateeva hosted a fashion show to unveil the autumn 08/winter 09 collection of her Mainaim clothing label. Accompanied by music that was heavy on the accordion and harmonica, various Amelies, Mireilles, and Marie Claires strutted up and down the runway in outfits clearly indebted to the cabarets and bohemian cafes of Toulouse-Lautrec’s Paris. So effectively was the aura evoked, that when the house lights went up and the murmurs of fashion critics again became audible, visitors who had a moment earlier been transported to the Moulin Rouge or a shadowy atelier on a crooked Montmartre lane came to with a jolt to find themselves in modern Moscow. So if it’s artistic inspiration you seek, Savvateeva can help you can get in touch with your inner poet (or inner can-can girl). Her new collection hits Moscow boutiques soon.
